Age-related Macular Degeneration - What causes it?
The cause for ARMD is unknown, but factors that are known to play a part include age (it rarely occurs before the age of 60 years), genetics (more common in those that have a family history), race (it is more common in caucasian populations) and smoking. Other environmental factors such as diet may also play a role.
